I was very fortunate to travel across the United States and Canada this year. Below are my top picks of the many destinations I visited in 2013. I highly recommend these destinations and hope you get a chance to visit them, too.

I could not be happier to kick off 2013 with a great Holland America Line cruise to Hawaii and Mexico. The New Year is certainly starting off right! This year I hope to enjoy several great destinations: Hawaii, Mexico, San Diego, Sacramento, Arizona and the Southwest, Germany, the Caribbean, New England, and Florida. It should be a great year filled with exciting travels and sights. I am looking forward to great trips with family and friends throughout the year.
I am wishing you a happy, healthy, prosperous, and peaceful New Year and many happy travels around the world in 2013! I hope you are one of the lucky ones planning an upcoming cruise. I have now been on 15 cruises (most recently the Mediterranean on Holland America Line) and have loved every one of them! If you are wondering how to plan for your first day, from embarkation to a candle lit dinner, plan for the essential items to make it a great day. For cruise vacations, I recommend boarding the ship wearing an outfit that is appropriate for the whole day. Resort wear or basic travel pieces that can be dressed up or down are the best since they can carry you through the entire day and through multiple activities. You will likely be without your baggage for a while after boarding, until it is delivered to the cabin, so make sure you are dressed appropriately for both sunning on the deck and casual dining in the restaurants. You may also want to bring a swimsuit and sunscreen in the bag full of the necessities you carry onboard yourself so that you (or the kids) can enjoy the pool or spa right away.

I am getting ready for my next trip! I will be leaving soon for a Mediterranean cruise onboard a Holland America Line ship. The cruise will sail round trip from Barcelona. I will be taking my mother on this cruise and I know she is as excited as I am to be underway. We will be visiting five countries total (Spain, Italy, Greece, France, and Montenegro), with visits to eight ports. Many of the cities and sites we will be visiting are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The World Heritage List includes 725 cultural, 183 natural, and 28 mixed sites that the United Nations’ World Heritage Committee considers to have “outstanding universal value” due to their natural and cultural heritage. What an amazing opportunity it will be to visit such locations on our little blue planet. Of course, I will be writing about each location in-depth, and sharing some details about the cruise, when I return. Please watch for those new articles to be posted soon under the Cruise tab.
